August 2010 Vol. 20, No.1 Welcome! Dear Friends, As the beginning of the new school year begins to shine upon us I welcome you to SCCASP. This year finds us with an outstanding list of presenters that you have helped us select. We are also looking forward to our National Association for School Psychologist (NASP) convention to be in the Bay Area in 2011. As I read through some of the descriptions given about our profession, the one provided by NASP certainly makes me reflect on the level of competence required from us. As School psychologists some of our tasks involve “to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally and to support learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students”. In brief, we may assume that among others, we carry the responsibilities of embracing and nurturing the students, children and parents whom come into our path. As we approach the beginning of our new calendar of presentations, I encourage you to take advantage and sign up. We are enclosing some links for you to access. I am delighted to have been selected to the Board and quite excited about the opportunity to serve us your president. Wishing you an amazing 2010-2011.
